I’m so excited about this fibre, I don’t know which part to tell you about first… » It’s a merino/nylon blend…great for socks or other projects that need extra durability! » It’s organic! Double yay! » It’s superwash, but using a new eco-friendly, non-chlorine process! Woohoo! If possible, it’s even softer & brighter than regular superwash, & it is absolutely lovely to spin. The dye colours are so vibrant in the finished product. I love spinning with it because it is almost silky smooth & so soft, you just can’t stop touching it. Also, it’s good for getting more yardage, since you can spin fine. » 1 lb./454 g Combed Top » 80% Organic, Eco-Processed Merino Wool/20% Nylon » Wool source & processing location: Europe » GOTS Certified Organic Wool (does not include nylon content or dyes) » Machine washable & dryable, but I still think handwashing & laying flat to dry is best…. Whaaaaat? An environmentally friendly superwash fibre?!? Am I dreaming? According to the Schoeller Wool website, the ExP4.0 Non-chlorinated Anti-Shrink process was developed in Europe, & is the “first wool finishing process which meets the strict criteria of the Bluesign & Global Organic Textile (G.O.T.S) standards.” ExP 4.0 is a new process in which uses natural salts instead of chlorine to smooth out the wool, & then applies micro patches of ecological polymer to the surface of the fibre instead of completely coating it with a polymer film. As a result, there is less damage to the wool surface, which keeps the wool bright white & preserves the “hand feel” & other lovely characteristics of wool while still retaining the best characteristics of superwash wool: bright dye uptake, pilling resistance & the ability to machine wash & dry items.
