Offered is an important Austrian parcel gilt silver christening cup by master Vienna silversmith, Josef Carl von Klinkosch. The engraved cypher indicates it was made for a Count ‘KC’ or ‘CK’. Klinkosch was granted the title of (kaiserlich und königlich) purveyor to the emperor, Franz Josef in 1855, & his wares were so marked with the double-headed Hapsburg style eagle. Klinkosch participated in the World Exhibition in Vienna in 1873 & the World Exhibtion in Paris in 1878 & won numerous silver & gold medals. This cup is hand chased with grapes on the vine, bells, & collared men. Inside is gilded. The cup, which holds 6 ounces, is marked with the Dianakopf mark dating 1872-1922 with ‘A’ for Vienna & ‘3’ for 800 silver standard. Further marked with ‘JCK’ & with the double-headed eagle. This is solid silver & not weighted. Condition is extremely good with some normal patina. 3.25" tall (8.25 cm) & 2.25" across the top (5.7 cm). Weight: 113.6 grams.
