A Summer on Chipoweet Creek tells the story of one summer in the life of Tom Odum, an enterprising twelve year old on the verge of becoming a teenager. Set in a simpler time period along the South Carolina coast, it details Tom’s adventures and relationships as he works towards his goal to buy an outboard motor for his boat. Often accompanied by a neighbor’s lovable dog, Tom explores the natural beauty of the outdoor environment that surrounds him while he earns money catching crabs, then selling them to Mr. Purdy at the seafood market.
