Biodiesel is an alternative fuel for diesel consisting of the alkyl esters of fatty acids. Vegetable oils are produced from numerous oilseed crops (edible and non-edible). Here an effort has been taken to study performance and emission characteristics of a diesel engine fueled with biodiesel blend fuels, using EGR and VCR. All the experiments were conducted on a single-cylinder, four-stroke, water cooled, direct injection diesel engine at the engine full load operation and constant engine speed of 1200 rpm. The results obtained with biodiesel blend (rapeseed oil methyl ester blended with butanol) were compared with the diesel fuel and biodiesel as a reference fuel.
