This is a story of 18 guys who became the President of the United States over the last 116 years. It’s the story of who they were, and how they ended up behind that desk in the Oval Office. It’s about what they did and didn’t do, with a big emphasis on how this affected our pocketbooks. It’s about a brutal conflict between Republicans and Democrats as each tried to shape our country - how this resulted in financial calamities, assassinations, impeachment hearings, resignations and war. It’s a story about context and a political game of retaliation. While today’s sound bites, tweets and memes paint a troublesome instant soup of contradicting facts and truth, it’s the connections between all these events that provide the true understanding of how we got to be where we are today. They say history repeats itself, and indeed it does, but we are faced with a mountain of jumbled opinions, misinformation and just out and out myths (urban or not). This is hardly the way to run a country. This is the story about the facts; you can look them up. It’s been a nasty, hard fought battle between conservative and liberal ideals that continues on and on. This story provides a deeper understanding of who did what and how it turned out for all of us, especially how it turned out for our wallets.
