The Ammonite features aesthetic maple leaf sutures, a natural feature of the fossil. This is an exceptionally large, heavy fossil & would make a beautiful natural addition to any collection! Locality: Madagascar. Dimensions: approx. 7.75" x 6.00" x 1.75" (202mm x 152mm x 44mm) Weight: 1523 g (3 lb 5.7 oz) Ammonites are the fossilized remains of an ancient cephalopod, & an ancestor of the modern nautilus. It’s likely that these are species Cleoniceras, which makes them approximately 110 million years ago (but ammonite species can be up to 450 million years old.) Ammonites were once top ocean predators, & over time their shells have been replaced by minerals, resulting in fossilization. HEALING: Ammonite fossils are especially stimulating to architects & those in the construction field. They are protective, giving stability & structure to ones life. Ammonite fossils may encourage survival instincts, & help us to see “the whole picture” of our lives. The fossil is named for the Egyptian god Ammon, because their shape resembles his ram horns. Ammonite fossils were prized by the ancient Egyptian & Roman societies, & were considered to have magical & holy powers. Though many gems & minerals have historical & cultural associations with healing properties, these items are sold for display, study, & collector interest only.
