This fascinating 28" by 23" silkwork embroidery from an Iowa estate is in its original 30" by 25" frame & dates to around 1810. It is of American origin from a family named Stewart that originally was from Connecticut. The foreground features the holy family & to the right is a biblical scene of Abraham preparing to sacrifice his son Isaac. God’s messenger is approaching to halt the sacrifice & at the far right is the ram caught in the brambles which is sacrificed instead. The intricate silk on silk embroidery is enhanced with hand painted detailing & the colors are still quite bright. There is some foxing of the silk, a small area of wear at the upper edge apparently caused by the frame & a bit of loss to the black reverse painted glass border. All of these areas are shown in the many attached photos. The paper backing on the reverse has the name ANNELEE in magic marker. Please view all of the attached photos for an accurate representation. Great care will be taken in packing with plenty of recycled bubble wrap to ensure safe arrival.
