It took me forever to figure out that neck chains like this one are called ‘station’ necklaces. I wonder if this come from the idea of a rosary? The stations being set at intervals around the chain. This particular station necklace is long enough to wear wrapped three times around & is a neckless in an of itself. Add another chain & a bauble or two & you’ve got quite a proper riot going on! This necklace, or chain or station necklace, if you will, is French, & Art Nouveau, & entirely wonderful. The stations are silver plaques, each 9.2 mm across, some have the head in profile of a woman warrior, some a crescent symbol, & still others sprigs of mistletoe. The stations are set with 6 inches of hand crafted silver chain between each & the necklace is 62 inches long overall, it has a clasp which can also be used to dangle a coin or something else fabulous. This necklace has the French boar’s head hallmark & weighs 20 grams, it was made in the Art Nouveau era, right around 1900, I’d think.
