Beautiful Art Deco period Sterling silver & guilloché enamel clothes/grooming brush made in Birmingham, England by Adie Brothers Ltd in 1935. The top of the brush is of Sterling silver featuring a stunning Art Deco engine turned design with a beautiful Robin egg blue guilloché enamel that contrasts beautifully with the Sterling silver. The brush has wood mounted natural bristles that are clean & in excellent condition. A stunning Art Deco clothes brush. Hallmarks: The brush is fully hallmarked with the Lion Passant symbol for Sterling silver, the anchor motif of the Birmingham Assay Office, the date letter ‘L’ for 1935 along with the crowned head of George V facing left which was only used for his Silver Jubilee year of 1935. There is also a makers mark of an ‘A’ along with ‘BROS LTD’ within a curved triangular cartouche which is the makers mark of Adie Brothers Ltd of Frederick Street, located in the heart of the Historic Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham. Dimensions: The brush is 15.3 cm long by 3.84 cm wide & stands 3.8 cm tall (6" x 1.51" x 1.5") & weighs 70 grams (2.47 oz). Condition: The brush is in overall excellent vintage condition. There are a few tiny dings & a small loss of enamel right at the apex of one end of the brush & which is factored in to the pricing of the item. About Adie Brothers Ltd: The firm Adie Brothers Ltd was based in Birmingham, with premises at Frederick Street. The hallmarks for Adie Brothers were registered circa 1902. in 1906 Adie Brothers became incorporated with the firms McKewan & Adie (manufacturers of silversmiths, jewellers & gold) & Edward Souter Barnsley (case & box makers). The firm was managed by Percy Adie until 1901, & then it was taken over by Tony Adie & Frank Taylor. They later became Adie Brothers Ltd when they registered their new hallmarks in 1922. The firm was well known for crafting vanity cases & mirrors, & specifically renowned for the pieces that were adorned with guilloche enamel. in the late 1960s the firm became a part of British Silverware, before subsequently closing in 1968.
