This is a unique handmade bowl that blends modern geometric styles with a more historic style of brushwork. The contrasting earth tone colors of beige & black create a soft design & their crisp application paired with understated brushwork makes for wonderful decoration on a exquisit form. This bowl would work well in a set of matching bowls (available upon request) or as a portion of a mix matched boho kitchen. This piece is modern & bold with references to older historic styles of making & decorating ceramics & would be at home in a modern kitchen or a boho chic loft. This is a handmade, wheel thrown, porcelain bowl. It was made on the potters wheel & allowed to set up before it had excess material removed through trimming. Once it was completely dry it was loaded into a low temperature kiln & fired to 1900 F in order to solidify the clay so that it cold withstand the glazing process. After the first firing the piece had a protective coating of wax to the foot before having a strong crips white liner glaze applied to the interior which was then also covered in wax to prevent any other glaze from being applied to that area. The exterior was then mapped out & a series of markings in black underglaze were applied around the entire exterior followed by brushwork around the lip & foot ring. After this application of underglaze had set a satin beige glaze was applied to the outside of the pot & allowed to dry. After the glaze had dried a wax resist was partially applied to a section of the exterior so the interior of the foot ring could be glazed. Once this portion had dried & was cleaned up the inside of the foot ring was glazed with a transparent orange glaze & the piece was cleaned once more with a damp sponge to remove any blemishes of unwanted glaze. The final step is for the piece to again be fired, this time up to 2200 F. This final firing melts all of the glaze material into a vitrified glass & solidifies the clay body into a non-porous structure. This piece is microwave & dishwasher safe.
