Using fine saw blades I hand cut interesting coinage to highlight the artistry of the sculpting that went into them. Coins represent a significant cultural & artistic heritage. Some people collect coins, others engrave them (I do that too) & they can also be re-carved or cut. Unique & fun items, these cut coins can be a great way to celebrate or recognize an event, a heritage, a wish, hope or dream. This coin is a 20th century Colombian coin. I added color to the design by incorporating a copper disc (25.4 mm diameter) with vitreous enamel. is it against law to deface coinage? Only if one is doing so with the intent to commit a fraud. Coins treated as objects of Art are no longer currency. what about the collectible value of coins? Well, many coins are collected because of what they represent & someone focused on collecting coins is not collecting Art. That said, I select coins that would have marginal perceived value as collectible coins & the modifications I make to transform them into art enhances their appeal & value.
