The underbelly carapace is that of the male blue crab & typical of this species, the crab’s rear legs are equipped with paddles for swimming. Crabs are crustaceans & belong to the phylum of arthropoda. Spiders, scorpions & insects are also a part of this phylum. I have had a shop at the Maryland Renaissance Festival for over 30 years & have had many requests for a Maryland Blue Crab Pendant. The blue crab thrives in the Chesapeake Bay & is a delicacy at many of the seafood restaurants on the Eastern Seaboard.
