Echinofossulocactus zacatecasensis seeds (Stenocactus multicostatus ssp. zacatecasensis ) Skill level: Germination: beginner Growing: beginner Stenocactus zacatecasensis is a globe-shaped cactus with long white, red, or black papery spines & 50-55 thin, wavy ribs. The blooms are very pale pink or white with a purplish midvein. Use a free-draining soil mix & water only after soil has dried during the growing season. Feed with a quarter-strength, balanced fertilizer. Keep dry in winter & it is hardy to a 25oF for a few hours. Germination of cactus seeds is about timing, temperature, quality of seeds, cleanliness, & establishing a technique for sowing. Some species have a higher germination rate, and/or a lower germination time than others. For that reason a specific success rate can’t be guaranteed.
