Physical fitness is a positive and dynamic quality extending on a continuum for abundant life to the death. It is related to ability to meet the demands of the individual environment, specifically to preserve, to with stand stress, to resist fatigue and to possess the energy for an abundant life. Physical fitness is minimal in the seriously ill and maximal in the highly conditioned person. The energy demands of daily tasks vary from individual to individual. Freedom from disease, efficient movement, alertness of mind, emotional maturity and social adjustment provides the framework of total fitness.
