Kissing Chaos may try and fool the listener by having ex-members of Pop Unknown in it, but beyond an affinity towards British acts like Depeche Mode and the Cure, the similarities are few and far between. This five song EP features an aggressive take on rock and roll, with screaming back-up vocals that register somewhere alone the lines of Thursday or Quicksand. In fact, the likeness to Thursday seems so dead-on, it’s almost ridiculous. It’s not as though the guitar tone or vocals are the same, but the general idea of what Kissing Chaos is trying to get across and the way they go about doing it is what bears the resemblance. For having members of Pop Unknown, Mineral and Sparta, one might think this would be a lot more creative, powerful and electrifying. Yet the only song which does much to stick out is the third tune, Communication Discontent, primarily due to the reminiscing back to Pop Unknown’s sound. Nothing here is done horribly wrong, it’s just that much more is expected of a group of this caliber and nothing truly delivers. Instead, we find a group keeping up with the pack instead of setting themselves apart like one would expect or hope.
