The Danger of being male a handprinted aquatint etching; this means that I have drawn the image, through a varnish, onto a copper plate, I then immerse the copper plate in acid, & the acid “bites” into the copper where I have removed the varnish. When the plate is done, & this takes a while, as most copper plates go in the acid several times, with me adding more detail & aquatint (gives dark tones) I ink the copper plate up for each print I make, you can only print once per inking. Once the ink & paper has dried I sign, title & number each print. As etchings are real hands on printmaking, printmaker are allowed to call their prints original prints, & etchings are very collectible. A great way to start an art collection! Aquatint is a technique where deep tones can be achieved on an etching, it involves rosin, that gets melted onto the copperplate with the help of a burner. Find my printmaking movies on Youtube, just search under my name, you can see me make & print an etching. I print the Danger of being Male in a short edition of only 50 prints, each print is numbered & signed by me. Please note you might not receive the number in the photograph. The etching is printed on a piece of white heavy printmaking paper, perfect for the image, the paper measures 9 x 12" (23 x 30 cm) & the actual images measures 6" x 9" (16 cm x 23 cm) I’ll mail your etching carefully wrapped & it comes with a nice “Original Print by Mariann Johansen-Ellis” sticker & a leaflet explaining what an etching is. If you are giving the etchings away as a gift, let me know & I’ll giftwrap for you! Thanks for visiting, come back soon!
