Priced & sold by 2, 4, or 8oz. This is a custom blend that was blended for me by DHG shop. It is a blend of plant fibers. It is 50% Flax, 25% Ramie (Chinese nettle), & 25% Cotton. The flax in this blend is dark green, the Ramie & cotton are seafoam green. I think it’s fun to know which fiber is which as I’m spinning it. I’ve been really interested in spinning more cellulose fibers for warm weather, since it’s not always winter! I wanted a plant fiber-only blend with the durability of flax, but the softness of cotton. Flax fibers have a nice long staple length of 4-5" & make up 45% of this blend. Cotton has a staple length of only 1-1.5" & Ramie has a nice long staple length of 6-7". That is a big difference in staple length between the cotton & the flax, so I like to pull off a staple length of this fiber & spin it from the fold, so you catch each fiber, regardless of its staple length. I don’t weave, & spinning flax by itself resulted in a yarn that I didn’t feel like knitting & wearing. So, the answer was to blend it with cotton or Ramie to soften it. I still prefer not to ply this yarn on itself, because I want a light, very flexible, summer yarn, so I I like to ply it with thread. The tank top in the listing pictures was knitted with a single of this plant fiber blend plied with green thread. I used the Tour de Top pattern by Elsebeth Judith on Ravelry & added a simple 3x3 cable up the front for interest. I have knit 2 tank tops with this pattern from these plant fiber blends. They are light & wear well in the sticky heat & I can feel the air blowing through the knitted fabric! Ahhhh! I only needed 1 full bobbin of the singles yarn of this plant fiber blend to knit these tank tops! So that makes for a pretty quick spin! I just throw these tank tops in the washer & drier along with all the other laundry. Ramie top is a plant (bast) fiber from the Chinese Nettle plant….also known as Chinese Silk Plant. Ramie has a lot of luster, just like silk. It has a shiny appearance & feels silk-like, but with a little thicker fibers. Ramie is one of the most common fibers in Japanese textiles, & makes a very strong fabric that is rot resistent. This blend of fibers is vegan friendly.
