Highly stylized salvaged Chicago interior residential pocket door backplates or escutcheons fabricated by the Russell & Erwin mfg. co., New Britain, CT. The c. 1870’s ornamental cast bronze escutcheons contain deeply recessed “cup” handles designed to pull the doors from their pockets. Original baked black enameled inlay highlights the casting detail. Mostly uniform surface patina. Measures approximately 5 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches.
