NYPD Captain Jimmy Gallagher only knows one way to face a situation, and that’s head on. His instincts are never wrong –ever, but they tend to land him in hot water. When Arab terrorist connect with the Russian mafia in Brighton Beach, Jimmy goes on a rogue mission to find out why –but the FBI steps in and calls him off –and he’s suspended. As thousands of well-wishers crowd onto Manhattan’s Pier 92 to see the historic passing of the torch from the Queen Elizabeth 2 to the Queen Mary 2, a rocket is fired into the Queen Mary. In the ensuing chaos, Ghazi Abu Khalil and his men slip onboard and take command of the evacuated ship. The British government, believing the evacuation is complete –each passenger has been personally accounted for –orders the QM 2 to be sunk before it can ram and destroy the fully occupied QE 2. An F-16 fighter jet is called in. As they are about to destroy the purportedly empty ship, Jimmy Gallagher realizes the connection; the Russian’s had supplied the Arabs with a thousand ‘Caucasian’ Chechen rebels pretending to be evacuees –and there are a thousand hostages hidden on the Queen Mary. Khalil kicks back and awaits his death as ’the oppressive arrogance of the West will soon be displayed…’ But nobody believes Jimmy and he’s left to crash onto the ship alone. And now HEAD ON becomes Die Hard on the Queen Mary in New York Harbor. The fireworks over the Statue of Liberty are alone worth the read.
