Antique Rug Size: 11.1 x 11.9 Age: Antique, C. 1910’s Pile: Low with lovely age-related wear & even throughout - amazing piece & condition About: I have named this piece after my favorite Greek God, the God of the Sun, music, & art, amongst many other things. This piece is a true example of what early mountainous & village weavings look like when met with the tremendous demand for high-end furnishings from Europe & American markets. These colors were & still are very desirable with anchoring handsome red, pops of muted & aged salmon, sensational blues with smokey charcoal abrash throughout, midnight blues & sky blues, Carolina blues, with unusual mint, & smokey emerald green in the corner spandrels, & of course the earthy hues & antique beige. Aside from the sensational & unique colors used, this design strikes the perfect balance of iconic & all-encompassing medallion, with an impromptu & very artistic flair that captures the weaver’s merit throughout. There are moments in this piece that are so personal & a wonderful departure from the expected. You can see some in the stylized ram horns, wonderful shrubs & trees growing with root-inspired motifs throughout, & even the details & composition of the beautiful use of layered color from the corners of the rug, & layering in towards the focal point in the center of the medallion. This piece has a low pile & the wool is nice & soft from the happy sheep of the northwest mountains. The natural dyes have softened over time which has aged perfectly without harsh artificially bright colors. This piece really is a top-notch piece & I would absolutely put it in my own home. The size is so crazy old, nearly a square which is indicative of its age.
