Michele Camera Faurot was born in Northeastern Pennsylvania and has been in the kitchen as long as she can remember. Making a short, but giant leap to the upper west side of Manhattan, she honed and perfected her culinary prowess, through a seafood apprenticeship at Citrella fish market, and 3 years as a Sous Chef to a Chinese Chef and cooking school instructor and several upper echelon bistros. Even more pronounced was her transition from NYC to Alaska in 1981, which ultimately ended in a homestead six miles out in the woods, built partially by her own hand, accessible only by walking or dog sled in winter with two amazing children. Her lifelong dream was realized with the opening of Café Michele in 2000, a restaurant hailed as one of the top ten fine dining establishments in Alaska. To further solidify her legacy, an invitation as one of the top five chefs in Alaska, a special on Food Network’s TV The Best Of….and publication in the revised New Alaska Cookbook. Michele currently resides in Talkeetna, Alaska, where she continues to write the second book of this collection. She owns and operates Michele Faurot’s Personal Chef Service, both in Alaska and Maui. Her Creative Consulting Service is geared to small signature and boutique style restaurants with an emphasis on efficiency while not compromising art or integrity.
