This unique set of cooking pots called pignata is a very traditional element of South Italian kitchen. They are used to cook legumes, vegetable soup, meat or octopus in the fireplace. They are vintage from 1970s, in great condition & can be used to cook in the fireplace. There are only few minor chips. They are perfect as decor on a shelf, as kitchen utensil holder, or as vase or planter for indoor or outdoor. They are used to cook in the fireplace or as decor. Measures: large pignata: 24 cm high, 18 cm diameter. small pignata: 19.5 cm high, 15 cm diameter. Pignata is used to cook legumes or vegetable soups, piece of meat or octopus using the heat of the fireplace (see last picture). Everyone should have one in the house! If you want to prepare a good peasant soup, put in the pignata a bit of water, chopped onion, a pinch of salt, extra virgin olive oil, a mixture of legumes or vegetables & place the pignata on the red-hot scorching coals. in 45 minutes the soup will be ready. You can also add pieces of meat or sausages. Please follow the following instructions if you don’t want your pignata to break while cooking!: - put your pignata in the water for at least an hour before cooking, - put the following things in the following order in the fireplace: first wood with fire, second coals/embers, third pignata (see pictures) - never put pignata directily on fire or it will crash, - cover boiling soup with a small dish or lid, - cook very slowly.
