He utilizes Red Gum as the wood of choice because of it’s beautiful grain patterns. This is a special piece for the Sea Otter collector filling a wall visually measuring 24" in diameter. The artist loves to exhibit in California at the Morro Bay Art in the Park Art Show 3 times a year on Memorial, July 4, & Labor Day Weekends. He has a double booth with many new works each year. He photographs sea otters while at the show working from these to carve new works. This piece is his latest work featuring the floating otter against the famous Morro Rock as seen by thousands of tourists each year. The Morro Rock is actually one of 11 lava domes up & down the California Coast. This wall sculpture is one in a series of sea otter carvings, all suitable for indoor display only. Each is an original with it’s own coloring, grain, texture, & of course, personality. The work has white staining for the waves, darkened torched areas, & a real abalone shell the otter is holding. Finished in water based lacquer, the piece has a steel bar across the back for easy wall hanging. All of Richard’s works are signed & copyrighted. He also includes a signed Authenticity Certificate with each piece. If the piece is completed at the time an order comes in shipment occurs in 3-5 days.
