Bohemian Spice Blend 13g Glass Container lbCC Historical Organic Spice Blends Packed full of Organic Goodness & Flavor!! A little goes a long way! We are excited to introduce our Historical Spice Blends. We partnered with Old World Wisconsin when researching these historical spice blends. If you haven’t had the opportunity to tour Old World Wisconsin you are missing out! Old World Wisconsin is an open-air museum located near Eagle, in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. It depicts housing & the daily life of settlers in 19th-century Wisconsin, with separate areas representing the traditions of different ethnic groups who settled in the state & original homes. We were asked to come in & tour the grounds with them & think about the individual gardens ( which the museums still keep authentic) for each ethnic group in addition to the specific items the general store had been importing in the early 19th through the 20th century. They showed us around & we talked in-depth about the various gardens & what types of teas & spices each group would have been using & growing & how they would mix their traditional spices with items from the new area in which they lived. They were interested in having us come up with a traditional Bohemian spice or tea blend using the herbs & plants that grew in their WI/Czech gardens. We had a bonus thrown in because the local dry goods store was importing some Czech herbs that just couldn’t be grown in this climate. We had a wonderful time working & researching with Old World WI. This is what we came up with. We first looked at the general spices used historically by the Czech people. We learned that the Czech word for spices is koen & it comes from “koen” which means -root. The first written recipes appeared in the 15th century, but it wasn’t until the 16th century that actual “Seasonings” were introduced. We also took a look at one of the best-known Czech household cookery books that was first published in 1826. That cookery book became so popular that 100 years later Czech households were still using it. We combined this research with the specific herbs which had been gown at the Historical Czech Wisconsin household at Old World WI to come up with a historical & versatile spice blend that can be used on everything from Soups, Breads, Poultry, Pork Sausages, Potatoe Pancakes, & more! Here is what we came up with using original seasonings & our added research: All of our herbs are Organic! Caraway: is one of the most common Czech spices used for a variety of dishes. It was sprinkled on top of loaves of bread, & put into the water used for boiling potatoes, & soup. Specifically, there is a well-known soup called caraway soup. Caraway was also used for meats & specifically roasted duck. Sweet Paprika: was also readily available & used in many traditional Bohemian seasonings. Paprika in its simplest form is made from ground sweet pepper pods. There were two types used in Czech spice blends - sweet (sladk
