A old 5 gallon size oyster shipping container from Herman Thompson oyster house at Kent Narrows in Grasonville Maryland. Herman packed gallons of oysters in the Stork can. The bucket is 13 inches tall & about 13¼ inches across. Oysters were sold to other shucking houses to help fill orders. They were packed in 5 gallon cans & then repacked into the buyers own brand can. The 5 gallon cans were also used to store shucked oyster to be packed in smaller cans for the retail market. The earliest were wooden, then steel, next was aluminum & finally stainless steel. This bucket is aluminum. It is stencil painted with the oyster companies name & address. It has the lid with it. It has dents, wear & dings. This were used hard & thrown around in trucks. Thanks for looking at our store. Please look the photos over well as they are the best part of the description.
