Glen (his dad) & Nathan assembled a small maple evaporator & made 5 gallons the first year. They realized that this was something they were very interested in pursuing on a larger scale. A larger wood fired evaporator was purchased & production went from 5 gallon in 2010 to over 140 gallons a year. The Maple sap is collected from local maple trees in the Allegheny National Forest area & boiled with a wood fired evaporator just like it was done years ago. Depending on the sap sugar count, it can take up to 50 gallons of sap to boil down to one gallon of Maple Syrup. It takes a lot of boiling time to get to the delicious golden maple syrup. in 2017 Nate was awarded the Inspiring Youth Award from the Pennsylvania Wilds. Nate has also entered Maple syrup in the Pennsylvania farm show.
