Masquerade balls were extended into costumed public festivities in Italy during the 16th century Renaissance. They were generally elaborate dances held for members of the upper classes, & were particularly popular in Venice. They have been associated with the tradition of the Venetian Carnival. It was a historic event that was brought back for a revamping in the 1950’s using popular costumes of the period…Jesters…Harlequin designs with all the same elaborate details as you would have seen hundreds of years earlier. This piece as rare as it is…comes with its original tag affixed to the left corner & is serged on the bottom & top as customary with salesman samples. This offering is for ONE original unused unwashed salesman sample…it measures 49 inches wide x 54 inches long…a ecru cream ground with minty seafood green…dark chocolate…pink…with swaths of black…the selvedge is signed " A Cohama Vat Hand Print Masquerade".
