Ammonite is the fossilized remains of marine mollusks that became extinct 65 million years ago. This ammonite’s impression has been replaced by pyrite, leaving the incredible negative featured in this piece. Amazingly, the stone on the bottom originates from the same long extinct sea creature that created the pyrite negative. Ammolite is an opal like organic gemstone, made of the fossilized shells of ammonites. Blue & purple flashes are the most rare, while red & green are more common.
