This pendant features a North Carolina ruby crystal. The stone weighs in at 54 carats & is set in solid 14k yellow gold wire. This stone is a rare North Carolina ruby. North Carolina has been famed for its gemstones for centuries, & is known to host rubies, sapphires, emeralds & hiddenite in addition to many other lesser stones. However production these days is fairly low, so most of what I can find comes from old collections or local enthusiasts who know the best techniques to find good material. This stone was recently collected & comes from the famous Propst Farm deposit in North Carolina. This is a small farm which produces rubies, sapphires & stones which are a mix of both with red & deep blue zones. I have been there to collect, & while it is fun it is also a lot of work. If you’re not an experienced collector it’s not easy to find the best stones. This one is a really great example, showing some of the finest quality ever produced at this deposit. Before I saw the parcel this stone is from I had no idea crystals of this quality were still being found in NC. It has a rich pink-red color, rich translucency & brightly etched crystal faces which catch the light as the stone is turned. It has a classic hexagonal outline & a pointed pyramidal termination.
