Antique Chinese Bronze Censer Sacred Elephant Four Treasure Incense Burner Circa: Late Qing-Republic, 1916 & earlier H 14 in. (36 cm), W 11 in. (28 cm), D 5.5 in. (14 cm) Overall very good condition. The elephant is a symbol of wisdom & strength. They are considered the most sacred animal in Buddhism & Hinduism. Ganesh, the God of Wealth, is the deified incarnation of one of their most important gods. Sacred elephants are frequently revered as the mount for Lohans & Buddhas. They are the favorite subject of painting & sculpture in art. As shown here in this antique bronze censer, the caparisoned elephant majestically carries an exquisite libation vase on the ornate saddle. The globular-shaped vase has two magic fungus lingzhi handles, & four crisp reliefs of the eight auspicious treasures adorning its side. This Ashtamangala included an infinite knot, a dharma wheel, a libation flask, & a victory banner. Four of the eight prosperous objects were offered by the gods to Shakyamuni Buddha after gaining enlightenment. The censer is gorgeously modeled with a natural flair, & delicately represented through a slight turn of the elephant’s placid head. Through which the power of a bowing movement is subtly hinted into our perception as we adore its charms. The censer is an exceptional cast of two parts. It has a mellow chestnut copper patina on a smooth cast surface. It has a naturally aged patina that flashes with encrustations inside & out. Authenticity Guaranteed. BuddhaMuseum specializes in temples & family worshipped Buddhist arts. We guarantee that all artifacts are genuine as described. It is our policy never to list fakes as genuine deliberately.
