Tablet weaving is a method of weaving strong, narrow decorative bands. The equipment required is very simple, but the range of possible patterns is infinite. Tablet woven bands are known to have been made in Europe since the Bronze Age, & are still made in parts of the world. The technique is known as the Egyptian loom in Central & South America. Uses for tablet-woven bands included the decoration of clothing & their use as belts & straps. Currently the technique is used to weave handles in Colombia. Materials used in the past include wool, linen, silk, & gold & silver threads. nylon & polyester threads are currently used.
