The Tao Te Ching is the world’s most translated Asian spiritual teaching. In this teaching, the Chinese sage Laozi covers a wide array of topics including the creation of the universe, the role of opposites in the way things are judged and perceived, the value of moderation, acting without interfering, and the characteristics of the sage as a role model for the world. The Tao Te Ching is written in Classical Chinese, a very concise language where the subject and other implied words are missing. In this translation, these implied words are placed in brackets for transparency to the reader. Endnotes are included to explain culturally influenced terms in the Tao Te Ching such as male and female and left and right.Reading the Tao Te Ching creates the opportunity to see oneself and the world through a new lens, and grow in the process.
