This exclusive Vintage yellow mustard “Kavaad” is an amazing folded wooden Hindu temple whose origin is more than 500 years old. Displaying hinged panels & doors where each door when opened depicts colourful pictures & design illustrating the most famous epic story of Lord Ram & Sita & Hindu Mythology. These portable temples or Kavaads are hand crafted by artisans of Rajasthan known as “Suthars” & made from mango wood & then painted with vegetable dyes. The story is then painted with a fine brush by the artisans for the master storytellers called “Kawariya bhats” who travelled from village to village chanting the tales of Mahabharata & Ramayan & used these as a mini theatre for story telling. A box at the bottom of the Kavaad was used to collect coins once the story was over. Size: Height 30 cm x Width when closed: 16 cm | Width when open: 56 cm Colours: Natural dyes & colours.
