Vintage Maricela Ysidro Garcia Pina 950 Sterling Silver Taxco Mexico Brooch Earrings Set. Rare brooch & screw back earring set by Maricela, a well known mid-century artisan from the Taxco Mexico. Traditional Mexican design with a modernist style. The brooch features a green turquoise cabochon. The matching or coordinating earring have green chrysoprase cabochons. Depending on how you look at the brooch & earrings they take on different shapes. I see a graceful bird or even a head of a girl with long flowing hair. So beautifully created. The pin & earrings are hallmarked as shown. The pin weighs 17. 2 grams & measures 2 1/2" long by 1 1/4" high. The earrings weigh 8.7 grams & measure 1 1/8" long by 5/8" wide. The pin & the earrings are both in very good condition. Nice aged patina with only the normal amount of wear. Inventory #E123 Taxco Mexico has a long history of silver artists, as it was mined as early as the Aztec era who used silver to create beautiful jewelry with exceptional craftsmanship. Over the years many exceptional silversmiths have made Taxco their home. Among the notables are William Spratling, who is recognized as starting the Mexican silver renaissance, Antonio Pineda, Frederick Davis, Hector Aguilar, Los Castillo, Margot de Taxco & Ysidro Garcia Pina (Maricela). Ysidro Garcia Pina opened his Taxco, Mexico workshop in 1943 & called it Maricela after his daughter. Taxco became the Mexican hub for fine silversmithing. His shop closed in 1986. The scripted mark “Maricela” dates to the 1940s. Later marks are in the Marcela printed in a circle. Maricela’s designs include pins, link & cuff bracelets & earrings.
