This is a very unusual & rare kilim from the west of Turkey in fantastic natural dyes. The workmanship is of very high quality & the colors are deeply saturated & rich. The main design is in the form of a prayer niche resembling its more archaic form from early pre-historic Anatolian architectural niches used to house the mother goddess & other deities & symbolizing a portal to the other world. The tree of life motif up the center & ram’s horns on the top represent a continuation of life & an ascent to the heavens. This kilim was woven by Turkish migrants who returned to Turkey from the Balkans earlier in the 20th century. This is a very special & unique kilim. -Great & unusual kilim -Fantastic workmanship -Mystical design Western Turkish Kilim
