The gray wolf (Canis lupus Linnaeus, 1758), also called common wolf or simply wolf, is a canid present in the remote areas of North America & Eurasia. It is the largest in its family, with an average weight of 43-45 kg for males, & 36-38.5 kg for females. Like the red wolf, the gray wolf is distinguished from the other members of the genus Canis by its greater size & by its less pointed muzzle & ears.
