A tiny, but very realistic, faerie crouches among the oak twigs of her home, ready to hide at an instant or weave a magical spell. This fantasy jewelry bracelet is part of the “Faeries of the Wood” collection that was developed from the idea of wandering into an ancient oak grove forgotten by time, & catching the briefest glimpse of faeries among the tree branches before they all disappeared. One day when walking through the woods my thoughts carried me to that mystical place & that is how this collection of wood nymphs was conceived. For the entire fantasy collection I started by gathering oak twigs, the more gnarled the better, & waxing small sections of them together to form interesting arrangements. The shapes inspired the faerie poses; crouching, standing, climbing, dancing, sitting or running. Then I sculpted the faeries three dimensionally out of wax; being mindful of proportion, musculature as well as minute detail. When the sculpture was completed I added them to the oak twigs & they were cast together in solid sterling silver. To achieve the finish each piece has been given two different layers of patina, the branches are left mostly dark with a satin luster over top to induce the feeling of old wood, while the faerie is given a higher polish, but still retains antiquing in the recessed areas to showcase the form & detail of the work. Included in the collection are several necklaces that have attached sections of cast twig, a pendant, ring, bracelet & earrings. The “Faeries of the Wood” bracelet is cast in solid sterling silver & consists of a central section that measures approximately 2 inches wide by 3/4 inches tall that is linked with curved sections of twigs & fastened by a toggle created in the same style.
